While the USS CORSAIR/STARFLEET is a Star Trek & Science Fiction fan club, we do support charities and other causes. Below is a list of the charities that we do support. Click on the charity to visit their web site (Clicking on the link opens a new window)
Animal Protection and Welfare Society (APAWS)
APAWS is a cause near and dear to our pirate-y hearts. We’ve done costumed appearances with them, co hosted a viewing of Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan, and fund raiser dinners at local eateries.
American Cancer Society: Relay For Life of South Tangipahoa Parish
Cancer has had a direct impact on many of our crewmembers, and it’s our goal to assist in raising funds to help patients, and hopefully find a cure. Each year, we team up with a local Hammond Middle School as a joint operation to do raffles, host video game fundraisers, and bring awareness to this event.
Each November, we play games to help children! Other Louisiana STARFLEET chapters gather at a local gaming store and secure pledges for each hour of game time by our crews. We welcome anyone to come and join us. Games include Heroclix, Artemis Starship Bridge Simulator, Cards Against Humanity, Munchkin, and whatever else we drag out to share. Our portion of the booty goes towards Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA.
Pencil Project: Glen Oaks Middle School
Every meeting we collect new pens and pencils for donation to a local school. They are then passed along to children who are in need.
STARFLEET Scholarship Fund:
Yes, this is one of our favorite causes! If you are a Star Trek fan and a member of our parent organization, STARFLEET, for one year, you can qualify for one of these unusual scholarships in medicine, engineering, language, and more, in honor of your favorite Star Trek characters.
