Becoming a member of the USS CORSAIR or another chapter in STARFLEET is simple– If you would like to join, simply follow the instructions listed right here.
Yes, the 327th Marine Strike Group is currently assigned to the USS CORSAIR. Members of the STARFLEET Marine Corps include veterans and active duty military as well as people who just prefer a ‘military flavor’ to their Star Trek fan activities.
Since 1974, STARFLEET has provided Star Trek fans a way to meet each other, make friends, have fun, give back to their communities, and show that the dream of Gene Roddenberry can live long and prosper. Join us! The human adventure is just beginning…
Absolutely not. While we appreciate the offer to pay us for our appearances, we don’t do this for money. We would much rather see that money go to people and charities who need it much more than we do.
Absolutely! We don’t care if you’re a member of any other fan group or fan organization– you’re more than welcome to be a member of ours as well, so long as there are no conflicts of interest. If you think that your membership in another group DOES constitute a conflict of interest, then please contact us and ask. We’ll let you know.
Well, we have a strong emphasis on having social events– but that’s not all that we do. We work on costumes, we get together and go to movies, restaurants, we do charity work, we do fundraisers, we do board games, we do laser tag– the sky’s the limit! Sometimes it’s just awesome to have something to belong to with a group of people who care about something the same way that you do. That’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?
The USS Corsair is the Baton Rouge chapter of STARFLEET, the International Star Trek Fan Association. We are comprised of fans who enjoy getting together to promote our interest in science fiction, and attending events (sometimes in costumes!). We want to show our appreciation for a series that has touched each one of us at some point in our lives, and if we can do that by making appearances at fan-based events, or by collecting for charity, or just share time with each other. We have members who enjoy costuming, gaming, writing, roleplay, or just chatting about Star Trek/ Star Wars/Firefly/Marvel/Battlestar Galactica/etc.
You may do so by using our super-nifty and state-of-the-art Appearance Request Form.
Some of our members are amazingly talented, and can sew them! If that’s too costly, STARFLEET has established an relationship with the people at CosplaySky, which provides a discount to STARFLEET members. The problem with finding Star Trek uniforms is that you’ll either find costumes that are painfully low in quality, or you’ll find high-quality costumes that run as much as $500-$600, easy. CosplaySky’s uniforms are of amazing quality and, perhaps more importantly, they have movie-level detail that is difficult to find anywhere else.
Not at all. Starfleet, Vulcan, Bajoran, Klingon, Ferengi , Trill, Cardassian, Andorian – you name it. We like creativity! Heck, aliens are always more interesting than plain old vanilla humans! In fact, some members would welcome the challenge of helping you achieve your inner alien goals!
Yes and no. Not to limit who can be a member, but more to make sure that anyone who chooses to show up in a Star Trek costume or uniform maintains a kind of quality that we want to be represented by. We encourage members to try and wear matching uniforms from the same timeline. This is just to help create a more cohesive unit, looks better in pictures and helps accent our centerpiece prop, a TNG era Type 15 Shuttlepod, which we bring out for special events.
You’re not required to. You can still join and partake in the full CORSAIR experience without owning a costume, and nobody will think less of you for it. Costuming is expensive, and not everyone can budget for such a thing.
We can’t stop anyone from purchasing and wearing their own uniform or prosthetic makeup. In fact, if you’re going to buy a uniform, we strongly suggest you give Cosplaysky the sales. Just keep in mind that you won’t be included in everything that the USS CORSAIR does.
You have NO idea. That’s why we encourage our members to stay hydrated regularly. Try to imagine walking the deserts of Vulcan in the middle of summer, while covered in lard and wrapped in bacon.
