March 1st, 2010From 10 am until 2 pm on March 20th, the USS Corsair is hosting a bookfair at the Books-A-Million Town Center, Baton Rouge to benefit the STARFLEET Scholarship Program.
What are the Scholarships?
STARFLEET offers 10 Scholarships, nine (9) specifying specific areas of study and one (1) general scholarship for those members who fall in between the cracks but still would like to benefit from the Starfleet Scholarship Program.
The scholarship categories are as follows:
DeForest Kelley/Dr. Leonard McCoy Memorial Medical Scholarship: This is for students enrolled in medical studies and encompasses Nursing School, Physical Therapy, Surgical Technicians, Biomedical Technicians, etc. This is a very popular scholarship.
James Doohan/Montgomery Scott Memorial Engineering Scholarship: This scholarship covers any field related to the science of engineering, figuring out how to make something or how to make it go. Jimmy Doohan, before his passing, was the only actor that actively supported his scholarship. He was always willing to donate items for raffles and fundraisers.
Patrick Stewart Scholarship for the Performing Arts:> This is for all those studying acting, dance, music, or skills and training relating to the media.
George Takei International Studies Scholarship: Mr. Takei requested international studies to foster his belief that better understanding of our diversity brings people closer together. This is for study of foreign languages or studies abroad.
Armin Shimerman Scholarship for Profitable Business: This scholarship is rather tongue in cheek relating to his character, Quark, on Star Trek: DS9. This scholarship is for business and management studies.
Marina Sirtis Veterinary Science Scholarship: Ms. Sirtis is an animal rights advocate and wanted to encourage people to study veterinary medicine and related fields.
LeVar Burton Educational Scholarship: This one is for those studying to be teachers or educators in some field. It relates to LeVar’s interest in literacy and his television program “Reading Rainbow.”
Gene Roddenberry Memorial Scholarship for Aspiring Writers: Majel Barret had suggested this subject in Gene interest in television, movies, etc.
The Law & Order Scholarship: This scholarship was started by a chapter for those studying Law Enforcement, no particular Star Trek actor or actress is involved.
Space Explorers: Columbia astronauts and Russian cosmonauts that have died to further our efforts in space exploration.
Cajunfest with USS Corsair
March 1st, 2010Time flies when you’re having rum!
The USS Corsair is getting into hot water again on March 20th from 3 until..whenever. We’re inviting all matter of life forms to come party with the pirates of the Third Fleet, and eat, drink and be merry. It will be held at the Chief Of Operations House in Baton Rouge (the private address will be emailed to those that RSVP)
After checking the prices of crawfish, we’ve decided to change the menu to be “cajun potluck”-meaning we will be serving jambalaya instead, along with some traditional sides (red beans and rice, rolls, salad) and asking people to bring a dish/snack/beverage of choice. For those in the mood for a traditional BBQ, we also will be serving hamburgers and hot dogs
The better news is that this means we can LOWER the price! Yes, $5 for the Corsair Cajunfest! ($6 if you’re prepaying via paypal on the website because of those dang Paypal fees)
If you have paid already, please see me at the door for your refund. I’ll have it in cash.
Let us know on your bringing any additional food/drink in the comments field or if you have any special requests.
Please send your payment of $6 to Trisha Tunis AT gmail.com via paypal by March 19, 2010 or please let me know if you’ll be paying at the door.
You can also RSVP at the Star Trek Meetup Site http://www.meetup.com/BRStarTrek/
This event will be happening AFTER the bookfair and autographing with Diana Rowland at Books-A-Million

Change of Command-Executive Officer
February 24th, 2010Good day everyone!
As many of you know, Ed has been serving as our “acting” Executive Officer for the past year. It’s with a not so heavy heart, I can finally move him off the bridge, and into something more useful-someone has to clean the dishes in the ship’s mess and do the laundry. (actually he will be assisting wherever he is needed)
Effective February 9, 2010, Commander Brian Landry has been appointed as the USS Corsair’s Executive Officer aka “Number One” or “First Officer”. He has some great ideas on what we can do as a Chapter, has been keeping me organized, and it’s about time he got the kudos for it.
Welcome to the (other) Center Seat!
In service,
Fleet Captain Trisha Tunis
Commanding Officer
USS Corsair, NCC-26556
