Security

What do you think of when you think of Security? Redshirts (or yellowshirts) getting mowed down in droves, so that the main characters live to save the day? That might be the cliché, but really, Security is very important, and does a lot more than you might think.

Security can be the police, honor guards, information watchdogs, even combat troops, if necessary. If you enjoy those things, Corsair Security could be the division you call home.

Corsair’s Security Division has three Departments, each of which has particular roles to play. They are:

Master-At-Arms, Armory, & Intelligence.

——————————————————————————–

Master-At-Arms:
This department is the one most folks think about when they think about Security. It has important things to do, both on the ship and on landing/boarding parties.
Aboard ship, the Master-at-Arms Department has the following functions:

  • Crew safety oversight (including fire control, in conjunction with Operations and Engineering)
  • Honor guards
  • Sentry duty
  • Vessel patrol
  • On-board police functions (including brig oversight)
  • Intruder control
  • Shipboard evacuation oversight
  • The Master-at-Arms Department also plays a crucial role on planetary/off-ship duty. These functions include:

  • Diplomatic/VIP escort
  • Landing/Boarding party protection
  • Scouting (securing potentially dangerous territory)
  • Ground combat functions
  • Sometimes, the Security Division may be called upon to perform various specialized functions. Many of these, also, are done by the Master-at-Arms Department. They can include:

  • Search and Rescue
  • Emergency Relief (in conjunction with Medical, Operations, or Communications, as necessary)
  • Facilities construction (e.g., trenches, bunkers, shield-emitter mounts, etc.) (in conjunction with the Engineering Division)
  • As you can see, just walking into the room and being the first to get shot at is not all that Security does!

    Armory:
This department oversees the maintenance and control of hand and portable weapons aboard the Corsair. Its functions include:

  • Armory control
  • Hand/portable weapons check-in/check-out
  • Hand/portable weapons inventory
  • Hand/portable weapons maintenance
  • If it involves hand or portable weapons on the Corsair, chances are that the Armory Department has something to do with it. So if playing with the phasers (from the tiny “shavers” to the big rifles) is fun for you, check out the Armory Department.

    Intelligence:
They say knowledge is power, and that idea is what the Intelligence Department is all about. It’s responsible for both investigation/inquiry functions and information security. The former would include:

  • Coordination of espionage and deep-cover operations
  • Gathering of reports on threat-force activities and plans
  • Monitoring of potentially-dangerous circumstances within the Federation
  • The latter would include:

  • Gathering, organizing, and processing information of a sensitive or classified nature
  • Maintenance of appropriate security-clearance levels (and access-control) on existing and incoming information.

In this day and age, with more and more happening in the world of information, Intelligence might be the thing for you.

Members who join the Security Division can join a particular department, depending on what interests them. Security isn’t just “cannon fodder”. There’s so much more to explore.
